Minecraft Bedrock is Free?!

Just found out this past Sunday that owning the Java edition of Minecraft gives you free access to the Bedrock edition? Apparently, if you own one or the other, you actually have access to both because of some package deal update. So now I can finally play Minecraft with friends I've never been able to play with up until this point.
